Exposing the body to extreme heat and cold is both a wonderful experience and healthy for body and soul, but it is also potentially dangerous if you don't listen to your body's signals and react accordingly.

That's why we have some important rules and guidelines for the health and safety of our guests.

  • Remember to drink plenty of water, both before and during your sauna time. There is free tap water at the bar and you can get jugs and cups of tap water to take with you to the sauna.
  • If you feel unwell, leave the sauna - ask others to join you to make sure you're okay if necessary
  • Everyone must book appointments (including members) and check in at the bar (except members in the morning hours)
  • Everyone should sit on a towel large enough to cover the contact surface of the sauna bench.
  • As there is a general ban on bathing in the harbour (unless you are in a bathing zone), swimming in the harbour is unfortunately not allowed. For the same reason, we have both cold water showers and a splash bucket on the island as an alternative. Swimming in the harbour can result in expulsion. We are working on establishing a private bathing zone for the island, but for now it is forbidden to jump into the water from the island. We refer to Kalvebod Bølge next to the island where you can swim.
  • Being drunk in the sauna can be dangerous. However, you are allowed to purchase the equivalent of two items at the bar during a sauna session. If you show up intoxicated before the start of sauna time (typically in connection with a private sauna event), we reserve the right to turn people away without refund. You are not allowed to bring your own food and beverages into the saunas.
  • Access to changing rooms and showers is available 15 minutes before and after your sauna time.
  • Fresh water may only be poured onto the sauna stones and only to an extent that everyone in the sauna agrees to. Remember that the lower bench is approx. 10 degrees colder than the upper bench. If you need water, contact the staff. Salt water will ruin the heater.
  • The unique nature of the island floating on the water in the harbour also means that the island construction is affected by natural forces such as wind and frost. Therefore, there may be days when some of the facilities are out of operation, without any compensation. This applies, for example, to our outdoor showers or café operations. We will announce on the website if not all facilities are in operation.
  • Members are the only ones who can book morning times. Members have first right of refusal to purchase membership for the next winter season. Members book on equal terms with others during the afternoon and evening hours (free for members), which means that the centre can be fully booked if you want to book at short notice, even as a member.
